What a Kitchen Sink Replacement Includes
The connection covers two supply lines with isolation valves, the tap, the basket waste, the trap and the waste pipe, finished with a leak test. Every link in that chain matters, because one loose join puts water in the cupboard below.
Here is what we connect:
Supply lines
a hot and a cold line feeding the mixer, each with its own isolation valve.
Basket waste
the strainer that seals the drain hole in the bowl.
Trap
the bent section under the bowl, holding a water seal against sewer gas.
Waste pipe
the line carrying used water out to the drain.
Those valves shut the water to the sink on its own, so a mixer swap or a hose change never drains the whole house. A dishwasher draining through the sink waste is a job for our dishwasher installation page, and braided hoses under the bowl belong on the flexi hose replacement page.

How the Sink Style Changes the Job
A top-mount sink sits on its rim above the cut-out, while an undermount mounts beneath the benchtop and needs a precise, sealed opening. That single difference reshapes the whole job.
The drop-in style lowers into the hole and its lip covers the edge, which forgives a rough cut and suits laminate benchtops. An undermount hangs off clips or support brackets, so the benchtop edge shows and the silicone seal has to hold. The cut has to be exact, because nothing covers it.
The mixer belongs in the same conversation, and our tap replacement page sets out the choices.

Kitchen Sink Work and the Form 4
Only a licensed plumber may connect a sink in Queensland. A new or relocated sink is notifiable work on a Form 4; a same-position swap is minor work.
The split works like this:
New or moved sink
notifiable work. No council permit applies, and the Form 4 reaches the QBCC inside 10 business days of finishing.
Straight swap in the old position
minor work, still done by a licensee, with no permit and nothing to lodge.
You keep a copy of the notice, and the QBCC's online registers show both our licence and the record for your address. Tapware, wastes and connectors used on the job need WaterMark certification as well, with each one listed in the WaterMark product database.

Where a Kitchen Sink Leaks
The usual suspects are a trap or waste joint, the basket waste's seal, the tap base, a supply join, and the seal between bowl and benchtop. Each one shows up differently.
Some leaks announce themselves, and some hide:
A drip in plain sight
a trap joint or a supply join, usually settled by reseating or renewing the fitting.
A cupboard floor gone soft or puffed
water tracking down the waste line, often past the basket waste's seal.
A stale damp smell or a tide mark
the same slow leak, found on a day when nothing drips.
A swollen base under the sink means a slow leak even without a visible drip, so lift the doors and look now and then. Urban Utilities looks after the street mains and the sewer; the pipes on your side of the boundary belong to you as the owner.

What Changes the Price of a Sink Job
Five things drive the price: the sink's position, any new water or drain point, the space below the bench, the benchtop itself, and the tapware you pick. The figure lands in a fixed quote once we've seen the job, and it doesn't move after that.
A straight swap into the old opening is the smaller task. Shifting the bowl means fresh supply and drain runs, which adds pipe, labour and the Form 4. A cramped cupboard or a heavy stone benchtop stretches the hours.

Kitchens From Weatherboards to Unit Blocks
The housing runs from weatherboards standing when Kedron State School opened on Leckie Road in 1926 through to this decade's apartment blocks. At the last census the suburb counted 3999 homes, and 27.4 per cent of them held four bedrooms or more, so sink jobs here often sit in bigger family kitchens.
Some of the pre-war weatherboards still carry galvanised steel supply that scales up and narrows the flow, so we test the flow at the mixer before a new bowl goes on. Renters take one extra step: a tenant needs the owner or manager's written okay on a Form 23 before a fixture goes in, and that request can't be refused without reason.

Your Kitchen Sink Questions
Call (07) 3523 6484Do I need a plumber to install a kitchen sink?
Yes, you do. The QBCC's advice for owners lists fixing and replacing sinks as work only a licensed plumber or drainer may do. No sink appears on the short list a home owner may do.
What is a Form 4 for a new kitchen sink?
A Form 4 records notifiable work with the QBCC, and we lodge it within 10 business days of finishing. You keep a copy, and the QBCC's online registers show the notice for your address.
How much does it cost to fit a kitchen sink in Kedron?
The cost depends on where the bowl goes, whether a fresh water or drain point is needed, the room under the bench, your benchtop, and the tapware. We put the figure in a fixed quote after looking at the job.
Does a dishwasher connect to the kitchen sink waste?
Yes, usually. The machine's waste hose attaches to a spigot on the sink waste, so the new waste needs the same spigot when a machine drains through it. The full connection details sit on our dishwasher installation page.
Can a kitchen sink in Kedron be moved to a new spot?
Yes. A sink shifted to a new position in a standing home is notifiable work. We lay the fresh supply and drain lines and lodge the Form 4 inside 10 business days.
